Resistance in Tibet

By , About.com GuideFebruary 18, 2009

Follow me on:

Tim Johnson of McClatchy Newspapers has a must-see video and news story about Buddhist Tibet. Tibetans are still finding small ways to resist Chinese rule, Johnson says.

Some engage in small-scale civil disobedience. Others, including monks, brazenly display photographs of the Dalai Lama, the exiled leader they revere as a God-king but that China maligns as a "beast." Nearly all gripe about a lack of religious and political freedom.

Next week is Losar (Tibetan New Year), and many Tibetans are vowing not to celebrate.
