Douglas Todd writes for the Saskatoon Star Phoenix that Buddhism is way cool. "I just want to remark on how struck I've been by the way many North American searchers are making Buddhism their spirituality of choice," he says. "It is currently very cool to be a Buddhist."
Although I'm a bit post-cool myself, it is very cool to be Buddhist. I would argue that Zen invented cool, manifested by the Beats -- Kerouac, Ginsburg, Snyder, et al. Yes, that was awhile back, but now we've got Leonard Cohen. How cool is that?
On the other hand, Todd describes how a yoga studio owner told him, "Everybody's a Buddhist now." If everybody is something, it's not cool any more. But in the dharmakaya no one is Buddhist, which is beyond cool.
