Bodhidharma

Bodhidharma (ca. 470-543 CE) was the 28th patriarch of Buddhism after the historical Buddha and the 1st patriarch of Ch'an (Zen) Buddhism. He is said to have meditated for nine years in a cave near the Shaolin Temple in China.
