Reader Submissions: How We Observe Vesak, Saga Dawa, and Buddha's Birthday

See Published Submissions

In Theravada Buddhism, Vesak or Visakha Puja is the observance of the Buddha's birth, enlightenment, and death. In Tibetan Buddhism, the corresponding holy day is Saga Dawa Duchen. This day also marks the birth, enlightenment, and death of the Buddha. In other schools of Mahayana, these three events of the life of the Buddha are observed on three different days, but Buddha's birthday in many traditions falls on the same day as Vesak. Whichever holiday your sangha observes, please tell how you observe it!
